BRASIL KITESAFARI

Level: Intermediate, Advanced

This two-week kite adventure is a once in a lifetime experience. The first 3 days is at the Kite Cabana to relax and after that its 12 days of Kite Safari.

During this vacation, you will visit the fisherman town Combuco, and during the kite safari from the port of Pecem up tp Macapa, Oceanbirdz has everything sorted for you in nice accommodations.

This trip is for kitesurfer who can ride upwind, who wants to get better at kitesurfing and improve their tricks and technique. During the three days at Cumbuco you will stay in Kite Cabana to prepare for the real adventure, here it will also be possible for the intermediates to get the last lessons they need for the real trip.

After Cumbuco the Kite Safari starts. There will be the possibility to downwind for some and those who rather not can go with the car to the spots. You will get to a lot of beautiful spots and will have the time to discover what they have to offer. You will spend mainly 2 nights per stop.

KITE BAR OPTUIGEN

Als je Kite hard genoeg is opgepompt  en klaar ligt op het strand dan gaan kan je aan je bar beginnen.

Waarom we meestal eerst met de Kite optuigen beginnen en daarna pas de bar uitlopen is, omdat we dan zo min mogelijk ruimte in beslag nemen op de spot waar je gaat kitesurfen. Ook omdat als je de lijnen al netjes uit gerold hebt, en een anderen Kitesurfer land met zijn kite over jouw lijnen heen, die nog niet gemonteerd zijn aan de kite, dan kan je ze weer opnieuw uitlopen. Dus als je Kite tegen de wind in klaar ligt, gaan we met de bar beginnen.

Nu heb je meerdere opties. Je kan ze Upwind, downwind of aan de zijkant van de Kite uitlopen. Dit hangt meestal van de ruimte op de spot af. We raden altijd aan om de bar uit te rollen downwind omdat dit de veiligste optie is. Dit leggen we uit in de kitesurflessen.

Zijn de lijnen helemaal uitgerold. Loop dan eventjes iets extra naar achteren. Want als we de lijnen gaan checken op verdraaiingen en knoopjes dan trek je altijd de bar een stukje met je mee naar de Kite toe.

Het makkelijkste is om eerst te beginnen met de 2 buitenste lijnen ook wel genaamt de stuurlijnen. Loop deze van de bar af helemaal tot het uiteinde van de lijnen na op knopen, verdraaiingen en beschadigingen. Als je een beschadiging vindt kunnen wij voor je checken of de lijnen nog veilig genoeg zijn om er mee door te Kiten. Daarna kan je beginnen met de 2 binnenste lijnen de power lijnen, ook deze van de bar af naar de Kite toe.

Kite Optuigen

Bij elke kitesurf sessie moet je eerst een paar stappen ondernemen, voordat je het water op kan. Een van die stappen is eerst je Kite optuigen, je lijnen uitrollen en vast maken. In dit artikel gaan we het hebben over je Kite optuigen.

Het eerste wat je moet doen is de keuzen maken met welke maat Kite je het water opgaat. Dit is natuurlijk afhankelijk van de wind, de stroming en golfslag. Daarnaast moet je ook een beslissing gaan maken welke discipline je gaat varen. Ga je in je Kite sessie focussen om hoog springen? Dan heb je waarschijnlijk een wat grotere Kite nodig of kleiner als je gaan golfrijden op een surfboard? Als je eenmaal je beslissing hebt gemaakt met welke Kite grote je het water opgaat, dan gaan we echt beginnen.

Zoek een plekje op het strand waar je genoeg ruimte hebt om je Kite uit te rollen en je lijnen uit te lopen. Ideaal is 40 meter rond om je heen zonder obstakels omdat je de Kite dan ook meteen op kunt laten.

Haal je Kite uit de tas en rol de Kite uit. Het is handig om dit meteen te doen met de leading edge tegen de wind in. De leading edge is de grote opblaasbare band aan de Kite.

Pak je pomp en maak je pomp leash aan de Kite vast, zodat de Kite niet wegvliegt tijdens het oppompen. Zorg er voor dat je deflate en inflate zand vrij zijn, en je deflate goed gesloten is.  Als dit gelukt is, dan kan je je pomp slang aan de Kite vast koppelen en beginnen met pompen.

Tijdens het pompen is het verstandig om vanuit je benen te pompen en niet teveel vanuit je rug. Dat voorkomt  blessures en vermoeidheid voor je Kite sessie.

De Harlem kite’s kunnen opgepompt worden tot wel 9 psi echter hoef je dit niet altijd te doen. Voor de kiter rond de 60 kilo kan de Kite worden opgepompt rond de 7 psi en voor kiters rond de 100 kilo mag de Kite opgepompt worden tot 9 psi.

VDWS Certification

This year we became a certified VDWS watersport centrum. VDWS is a watersport certification which you can use to show what level you are able to kitesurf. To be able to rent equipment you will also need a certificate.

Some of you already bought the VDWS Kitesurf Theory book from us, and all that needs to be done is the theory test.VDWS theory test is about rules on the water, who has the right of way, kite safety and a lot more.

We will do special theory evenings, where you will take the theory test, learn more about kitesurfing and off course a cosy evening with other starting kitesurfers.

Kitesurf Windvenster

Het windvenster of de engelse benaming wind window.
Het windvenster is het gehele gebied waar de kite/vlieger kan bewegen. Buiten het windvenster kan de kite niet vliegen omdat hier buiten simpelweg tegen de wind in wordt gevliegerd.
De maat van het windvenster is afhankelijk van de lijn lengte. Hoe langeren de lijnen zijn hoe groter het windvenster is. Het windvenster is onderverdeeld in 3 zones. Power zone – softzone en wind vensterrand.

De positie van de kite in het windvenster heeft ter verduidelijking de nummers gekregen van een klok. Dit maakt het gemakkelijker om te communiceren over de kite positie ten opzichte van het windvenster.
Wanneer bijvoorbeeld wordt gezegd de kite op 12 te houden, dan wordt verwacht dat de kite recht boven de kiter staat. Indien 9 wordt gezegd, links bijna op het water en wanneer 3 wordt gezegd natuurlijk rechts bijna op het water.

Windvenster Rand

De windvenster rand is de positie waar de kite maximaal naar de wind toe kan. De windvenster rand heeft de kite het minste kracht. Daarom wordt de kite ook op gelaten aan het windvenster rand. Boven je hoofd is 12 uur. Als je de kite op 12 uur stuurt of ook genaamd de safe-zone dan is de kite op zijn rustigst en kun je gemakkelijk bijvoorbeeld je kiteboard aantrekken. Rechts van je is 3 uur dit is helemaal op de grond en daar kun je je kite oplaten. 9 uur geld hetzelfde voor als 3 uur maar dat is links van je op de grond.

Powerzone

Als je met je rug naar de wind toestaat is de powerzone recht voor je. In de powerzone vangt de kite de meeste wind en krijg je dus de meeste druk in je kite. Je kunt de kite in de power zone sturen door middel van de kite van 9 uur naar 3 uur te sturen. Op dit moment krijgt de kite de meeste kracht. De powerzone kan een gevaarlijk gebied zijn voor de beginnende kitesurfers. Zeker als het wat harder waait kan de kite hard gaan trekken in de powerzone. Wanneer het minder hard waait kun je de powerzone juist gebruiken om de waterstart te oefenen. Dit geeft meestal net eventjes die extra kracht in je kite met weinig wind om op te staan en je eerste meters te varen.

Softzone

De softzone dicht bij het windvenster rand. In de softzone heeft de kite een stuk minder kracht dan in de powerzone. De softzone bevindt zich aan boven- en zijkant van het windvenster. Als het hard waait kun je de kite in de softzone rustig houden om de kracht van de kite te verminderen.

Er zijn 4 verschillende windrichtingen, namelijk Noord, Oost, Zuid en West.
Combinaties van deze windrichtingen zijn ook mogelijk, denk aan Noord-Oost, Zuid-Zuid-West etc. Als je op het strand staat en je wil weten waar het Westen is, dan is dat vrij eenvoudig want de zon gaat onder in het westen (zonsondergang in de zee) en komt op in het oosten. Als het 12 uur is dan staat de zon op het zuiden.

ONSHORE

Onshore wind betekent dat de wind van het water pal naar het land waait. In het Nederlands zeggen we ook wel aanlandige wind. Met deze wind is het moeilijker om te kitesurfen zeker als het water meteen diep is. Als je tijdens het waterstarten niet meteen upwind kunt varen dan is het verstandig om eerst te upwind body draggen totdat je een veilige afstand van de kant hebt. Bij ons wordt dit onderdeel uitgebreid behandelt in de kitesurflessen.

OFFSHORE

Offshore wind is als de wind vanaf het land het water in gaat. In het Nederlands noemen we offshore wind ook aflandige wind. Met aflandige wind op zee kun je eigenlijk niet kitesurfen, stel je voor dat je materiaal pech krijgt dan drijf je af het water in. Op klein binnenwater waar je de overkant kunt zien, en veilig de kite weer kunt landen en terug lopen kan je wel met aflandige wind varen. Hou er wel rekening mee dat de wind erg vlagerig kan zijn door obstakels upwind, denk hierbij aan bomen, huizen etc.

SIDESHORE

Side shore wind betekent dat de wind met de waterlijn mee waait. Side shore wind is een goede wind om te kitesurfen. Het is gemakkelijk om weg van de kant te varen en naar de kant toe te komen. Als je nog geen hoogte kunt houden kun je gemakkelijk over de kant terug upwind lopen.

CROSS OFFSHORE

Cross offshore wind is schuin aflandige wind. Met deze wind kan je eigenlijk ook niet kitesurfen op zee. Je kunt waarschijnlijk erg moeilijk terugkeren naar het strand toe en daarbij komt nog eens dat de wind waarschijnlijk erg vlagerig door obstakels tegen de wind in. Er zijn waaghalzen die met deze wind toch nog op zee varen, dit zijn zeer gevorderde kitesurfers die er zeker van zijn terug te kunnen komen naar de kant, maar ook deze categorie kiters zie je wel eens opgehaald worden door de reddingsbrigade omdat zij niet meer terug kunnen komen naar het land.

CROSS ONSHORE

Cross onshore betekent dat de wind schuin aanlandig is. Schuin aanlandige wind is ook een ideale wind om te gaan kitesurfen. Omdat je erg gemakkelijk naar de kant kunt komen. Terug lopen over het strand is ook erg gemakkelijk met deze windrichting. Ik persoonlijk vind de cross onshore erg goed om de golven te bereiden. Je kite kan met deze windrichting goed mee driften!

Welke wind is het beste aan de Nederlandse kust

Zomers komt de wind meestal uit het Zuidwesten dus cross onshore wind. En dat is ideaal! Met een lekkere warme Zuidenwind is het fijn om in Zandvoort te kitesurfen zeker in combinatie met afgaand water. De andere windrichtingen waarbij je kunt varen aan de Nederlandse kust zijn meestal vanaf Zuidenwind over Westenwind tot Noorderwind. Het is een beetje afhankelijk waar je wilt gaan varen.

Het unieke van onze kitesurfschool is dat we ook een mobiele locatie hebben. Dus als de wind niet optimaal is in Zandvoort bijvoorbeeld offshore wind. Dan kunnen we in overleg met de kitesurf studenten altijd naar anderen kitesurfspots rijden waar het wel onshore wind is zoals in Muiderberg, Schellinkhout, Medemblik
